Our Process

Kickoff Meeting

In this meeting (virtual or in person), we’ll deep dive into the why behind your business, your goals, target audience, and more about your brand. Then we’ll discuss inspiration and ideas for visuals that can represent your core values and foundation.

We’ll also establish what kind of packaging will be needed – number of panels, do you want a lyrics booklet, any special production finishes (glossy, matte paper, embossing etc) and help you pick a manufacturer if you don’t already have one. We’ll need to know manufacturer so that we can design our package to their specifications.,

Design first two concepts (2-3 weeks)

Based on our discussion, I’ll come up with two different concepts so you can get a sense of the direction you’d like to go.

Revision Rounds

If you like one of the concepts presented, we can refine and tweak as needed. Sometimes people want to see the different colors or font and other times we’re making changes to design elements or placement. Regardless of what it is, we have two included rounds of revisions to get it just right.

Not sold on either of the first two concepts presented? That’s okay! We can discuss what you like or don’t like and any other feedback before I come up with a brand new concept for you. There is one additional revision round included if this is the route we go.

Any revisions beyond these rounds will require a new quote via email.

Layout

After this, we will lay out text and photos for the package elements — Jackets, sleeves, disc labels, inserts. We will make the layout drafts available to you via PDF that you can mark-up onscreen in case you have any text changes. You will be responsible for making sure all text (spellings, grammar, song titles, websites referenced, etc) are correct.

If an additional format (CD, LP) is needed, this will be laid out after approval of the initial form of packaging.

Finalize files

Once you’ve approved all of the text, and the design, I will prepare the files for production, and make print-ready PDF files available to you or your printer. Part of my price includes me being available to troubleshoot files in case the printer needs something changed or fixed before printing.

We will also give you the digital cover as a JPG file. (Usually 3000 pixels wide at 72 dpi, but let us know if you need another size/format).
